Simple But Helpful Tricks That Will Help You Out If You Got Stuck On Your Research Paper


  1. Prepare an outline for your ideas. In order for your paper to be successful, you need to make sure that your thoughts organized. Take all of the things that are already mulling about in your head and put them down on paper. You can then find the connections between your ideas and much clearer fashion. This will serve as the foundation for your outline. Make sure that you have your outline before you start writing your paper.

  2. Once you have sorted all of your ideas into their corresponding categories, make your thesis statement. Tell your reader exactly what your point is. Tell them why your essay matters. You want to tell the reader why they should keep reading.

  3. Make sure that you are constantly backing up your files. For all of your notes, reference pages, or section pages, you need to back up your files every time you use them. Make sure that you don't simply backup your files on the same computer. Do not back up your computer files in another folder elsewhere on your hard drive. Make sure that you back them up to multiple other locations. Email them to yourself as an attachment or have a physical filing system where you can file notes, photocopied journal articles, or completed chapters. Make sure that all of your data is copied and saved in a location different than your main computer so that you always have access to the work and the progress that you've made.

  4. Once you have written the thesis statement it is time to move onto the body of your argument. The body of your paper is where each of your supporting arguments is held. A common mistake made by many students is that they write each paragraph, contained in which are each of the supporting ideas, but they fail to make the connection to the thesis statement. Don't do this. Make sure that each body paragraph you have refers back or connects to the thesis statement a very clear fashion. Just because you know what the transitions are and what the connections are does not mean that your reader will know what they are. So tell your reader. Spell it out, literally, in black-and-white.

  5. Write your introduction after you have developed your thesis and the general structure of the body of your paragraphs. Many students struggle because they assume that the introduction needs to be written first and the conclusion needs to be written last. But this is not necessarily true. Yes the conclusion should be written last because you need to have your introduction and your body done that before you can summarize what information you presented in both. But the introduction does not have to be written first. While the introduction needs to grab the reader’s attention and have your thesis statement, you can write it after you complete the body of your text. Finally, add the finishing touches.

  6. Verify that the order of your paragraphs is the best order possible. Review your instructions to make sure that you followed everything your teacher requires. And edit and revise your paper multiple times.
